5 metalworking fluid tips for the summer

Summer is finally here, but for those of us who work with metalworking fluid, the summer does not just mean lazy days, but also a certain amount of headaches. Machine downtime and heat waves are devastating for our fluids, bacteria multiply and eat the metalworking fluid and the autumn often has to start with a change of fluid. In this contribution we have listed the five best tips to ensure that the summer is as glorious (and economical) as possible.

  1. Clean the system thoroughly! Use a system cleaner or even better, hot water. Flush all pipes and rinse properly after cleaning.
  2. If you have heat exchangers, make sure to clean them! Effectiveness is reduced when dirt and bacteria attach to the surface. You will thank yourself in the autumn when your cooling system is functioning perfectly.
  3. Store the metalworking fluid instead of destroying it! Metalworking fluid can survive the summer with the right treatment. Make sure that the concentration is correct and that you don't bring the bottom sediment along with it. To avoid bacterial growth, the metalworking fluid must circulate and the bacteria be reduced, and it is beneficial to do this with a FluidWorker.
  4. Analyse the metalworking fluid before it is stored in order to check the fluid's status.
  5. If you keep your production going during the summer, bear in mind that higher temperatures make the bacteria grow faster! Increased protection against bacteria might be necessary, keep an eye on the test results. And reward yourself with an ice cream sometimes, after all, it is summer.
