As the water in a cooling process is dissipated over the cooling coils, some is broken down into tiny droplets called aerosols. Water naturally contains bacteria and aerosols can contain all of the microorganisms found in water, including Legionella. Aerosols are so small and light that they can spread over several kilometres. When people breathe, drawing these aerosols into their lungs, Legionella bacteria are able to gain a foothold, causing, among other things, legionnaire’s disease.
Integrating Wallenius AOT into a purification system makes it possible to prevent Legionella being spread with the water. Besides their health-related advantages, cooling towers designed according to a concept of this kind contribute to a number of financial and environmental benefits. The system provides energy-saving water purification compared with traditional high-temperature treatment and purification that is sustainable thanks to the possibility to reduce chemical additives.
